Advisory desk
New Caledonia
Issued when there are serious risks to safety somewhere in the destination. It is a caution rather than a closure: many Level 3 destinations are visited safely every day, and the advisory usually names the specific regions driving the rating.
What it means for a trip
- Read the official advisory for which areas are named — the rating often reflects a border region or a handful of provinces, not the whole country.
- Insurance and supplier policies usually still apply at Level 3, but a change in level mid-trip can affect them.
- Enrolling in the State Department's STEP programme means you get alerts while you're there.
Thinking about going anyway?
Advisories are a blunt instrument — one region can drag a whole country's rating down. I'll tell you honestly whether a trip still makes sense, which areas to leave off the map, and what your insurance actually covers. Planning with me is complimentary.
