Timing

The right month is half the trip.

Same hotel, same flight, different fortnight — and it's a different holiday. Here's how the year actually falls in the destinations I plan most: when they're at their best, when they're quietly excellent value, and the weeks I'd talk you out of.

Late April to mid-June still delivers the same water at lower rates, before the season turns.

Best value
September and October — genuinely quiet and well priced, with far less storm exposure than the islands to the north.
Worth knowing
Aruba sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt and is rarely hit directly, which is why I recommend it for late-summer travel. Trade winds are constant year-round.

Best value
Those same shoulder months are when resort rates and airfare are at their most reasonable.
Worth knowing
Humpback whales are offshore roughly December to April — spectacular, and the busiest, priciest window. Winter brings more rain and bigger north-shore surf.
