Is it safe to travel there right now?
Every destination currently carrying a U.S. State Department Level 3 — Reconsider Travel or Level 4 — Do Not Travel advisory, re-synced from the official advisory map every morning. Open any destination for the official guidance, what the level actually means for a trip, and my own read where I have one.
An advisory covers a whole country or state — it rarely means every part of it is off-limits, and it is not the same as a travel ban. Levels change without much notice, so treat this page as a starting point and the official advisory as the authority. If a destination you're considering is on this list, talk to me before you cancel anything.
Level 4 — Do not travel (21)
The State Department's highest advisory. Consular help is limited or unavailable, and most travel insurance will not cover a trip taken against it.
Level 3 — Reconsider travel (30)
Serious risks somewhere in the destination. Plenty of Level 3 countries are still visited safely with the right planning — which parts, and when, is the whole question.
Mexico, state by state (13)
Mexico is assessed state by state rather than as one country. A resort state can sit at a different level than its neighbour, which is exactly why the map matters more than the headline.
